Enjoy a tour of two of Aswan’s most iconic landmarks, starting your visit with the Nubian Museum, which was created after the UN responded to the Egyptian government’s call on April 6, 1959 to save the monuments from Nubia. Later, proceed to the Aswan High Dam to visit the Kalabsha Temple. Enjoy two of the most important stops in Upper Egypt.
Stop 1: Nubian Museum, Aswan
The first stop of the tour will be at the Aswan Nubian Museum.
Established as part of the UNESCO International Campaign for the Establishment of the Nubian Museum in Aswan and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo, the Nubian Museum in Aswan opened to the public in November 1997 and has won widespread acclaim for its the quality of its design and collection.
Stop 2: The High Dam of Aswan, Kalabsha Temple
Located within sight of the High Dam, the Kalabsha Temple is usually the first stop on any Lake Nasser cruise. It was moved to this location from its original location 30 miles to the south after the dam was built.
The construction of the temple began at the end of the Ptolemaic dynasty and was actually completed under the rule of the Roman Emperor Augustus. The result is an interesting combination of images that include Egyptian and Roman themes with images of Roman emperors and pharaohs worshiping Egyptian gods. The temple was dedicated to the Nubian god Mandalas.
It has a large pylon, which is connected to the rest of the complex by a wall, creating a closed space. There are stairs to the roof, giving a great view of the loch and back to the High Dam.
Finishing the tour, our representative will take you to your hotel in Aswan or to your cruise ship. We hope you enjoyed this tour very much!
